The Alagash Wilderness
The Allagash River is a 92 Mile long Waterway that runs through a greater potion of Norhtern Maine. It is a popular destination for those who seek the enjoyment of leaving modern ammenities, to experience the great outdoors. The waterway is vistied by thousands of travelers, and large groups, primarily Expedition Groups, each year. It features a 45-foot, Cascading Waterfall, Class I and II Rapids, and beautiful scenary. In addtition, the Waterway does also pass through Baxter State Park - which surrounds Maine's tallest peak - Mt. Kahtahdin. This can allow wonderful opportunities to those who travel the Allagash to experience the tallest mountain in Maine. However, the Allagash, despite being located in the deep Maine Wilderness, is maintained by the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry. In essence, travellers can expect the wonderful experiences of backcountry expedition, with expertly maintained Campsites, Dams, and Ranger Outposts.
